Rio is known as the “Cidade Maravilhosa” and it really is marvelous. I’ve been here many times and it never gets old. The rain forest-covered mountains meet the stunning beaches in Rio. And in between there is the vibrant culture of millions of “cariocas” as people from Rio are called.

It’s been fun exploring the city and its surroundings with Ricardo and having the sights, sounds, smells, and tastes of Brazil bring back memories of his childhood. The last time we were in Rio together, he was 10 years old and didn’t speak a word of English!

I’ve also had many wonderful memories triggered from my time living in Brazil thirty years ago. Now if I could just remove the Spanish that keeps interfering with my Portuguese!

We’ve got a few more days of exploring to do before heading our separate ways. Not much else to say for the moment, so I’ll let the photos tell our story.
