Dear Tim, this was so interesting and touching to me, because my grandson, Lucas is in high school in Rio, and his sister, Kaylee is with me and about to enter her senior year of college. I am learning about Brazil and the strong family culture involved, but racial discrimination is seldom mentioned. Thank you!

Tim, What a beautiful story of how a chance encounter would bring you and others so much joy through the decades. The trust, attention, friendship and eventually love that you shared with Pércio and Alex during your years in their town enriched not just you but their entire family. Who would’ve known that your sons would get to meet those two wonderful boys and their families on a future trip to Brazil.

Our friendship started with a chance encounter as well, and though we do not see each other very often anymore it has endured for 37 years. I’m so glad you decided to send postcards out by snail mail during the pandemic. It reminded me of when I used to be thrilled to get your letters from Bolivia or Brazil so many years ago.

I look forward to reading your next post.

Thanks for your thoughtful comment, Diane! It was amazing to have the boys meet them and watch them all interact. Yes, we have many memories – my friends always tell me to write about the ice cream holdup story! Haven’t started my next post yet, but my goal is to have another one out within two weeks.

Thanks for sharing this! I love that you all are still in touch after all these years. I rather miss letter writing in these days of instantaneous reactions. There’s something about handwritten letters and postcards that isn’t captured in emails and texts. And the photos are beautiful. You are blessed. 🙂

I love to read these stories and get to know more about your wonderful adventures. Being so busy at work makes it hard to have detailed conversations and get to know more about each other. Thanks for sharing.

    Hello, Tim!

I’m from Brazil and met your son, Ricky, in San Francisco, we lived at the same hotel for a couple of months.
I came here because he told me a lot about you and after reading this I can see all his words are true. You’re fantastic! What a wonderful story!

Te desejo tudo de melhor na sua vida! Um grande abraço!

I know you told me about your families from Brazil but reading about them through your writing is even better…now I know why we were safe in Vietnam …prayers from Maria Luíza in the Bible. And the reference given from our hotel clerk in 2017, that you were Timothy from the Bible and you needed to take me to church. I always seem to meet nice people with you and see why you’ve had a lot of practice at it. So nice that you compiled this history with all the great memories and photos.. awaiting the next adventure!
